Preps Dance Company to Compete in New York City this July
DELAND, FLORIDA - Preps Dance Company is once again at the top of their game, winning the 2016 Access Broadway Orlando Regionals competition this February, qualifying them to compete in New York City in July for the National title of America’s Best Debut Dance School. Preps dancers won both the Regional and National titles in 2014, and they are ready to claim victory again!
Although it’s only their 4th season, Preps Dance School & Company is both regionally and nationally recognized for their innovative choreography, professionalism, and highly talented dancers. Preps Dance has appeared at multiple National Showcases held in Orlando, Florida, they have been invited the past three years to perform at Disney, they danced at ICE at the Gaylord Palms, and have received hundreds of accolades throughout their short but successful career in the competition dance world.
The schools owner and director, Miss Lyndsay Fuller, has earned three awards so far this year for her outstanding choreography, while the girls brought home over 38 High Scores, 18 1st place wins, and seven 2nd place wins, this season alone. Their distinction on stage carries over into their academics as well, as many company members excel in AP classes, and overall exhibit a passion for reaching higher standards.
Preps is a performance and production studio located in DeLand, Florida, boasting over 100 dancers between the ages of 2 ½ and 17. Only 29 of these students will be representing their small town in the Big Apple this summer to compete for the National title. Accompanying the dancers and Fuller will be vocal coach Keelyn Oxley Mitchell and company instructor Katie Coulter. The competition spans from July 5-12, culminating with a showcase of all the top pieces on stage at a theater on Broadway. It is the opportunity of a lifetime for these young dancers, and Preps is more than ready to compete at such a prestigious level.
Preps Dance Company performs at the Athens Theater twice a year, featuring the company division in the fall, and all school and company students in their spring production. This June all Preps dancers will appear in “Thoroughly Modern… Modernly Me.” The school is also involved in many community events, including marching in the Deland Christmas parade, the annual Mardi Gras parade, running in the MeStrong 5K race, Dancing for Diabetes and dozens of other local affairs.
